State Implementation Plan

Required air quality planning documents prepared by states, territories, or local air districts to implement, maintain, and enforce the National Ambient Air Quality Standards in areas violating the NAAQS, and to fulfill numerous other requirements of the Clean Air Act. They are submitted to EPA for approval and are living documents as sources, health effects, and standards change.  SIPs also included the rest of a state’s air quality protection program required under the CAA and identifies actions and programs to show how the state will protect and maintain compliance with air quality standards.
