Local Government Resources

As the population of the Front Range continues to grow, and our air quality continues to be threatened, it is critical for all of us to help educate and mobilize our communities to protect and improve the air we breathe. The Regional Air Quality Council (RAQC) would not be able to reach as many people through our planning and outreach efforts if it were not for the great assistance at local governments throughout the Denver metro area.  Thank you for joining with us to help raise awareness and encourage participation in our programs that are critical to maintaining our quality of life here in the region.

This guide is designed to give you an overview of the RAQC’s programs and initiatives and the tools you need to educate and engage your citizens. You’ll also find contact information and we welcome any opportunity to answer your questions or provide further assistance.

Again, thanks for working together with us, so we can all breathe easier.

How to Get Involved

Ozone Aware Program

Unlike the good, protective ozone layer in the stratosphere, ground-level ozone is a harmful air pollutant that affects all of us. The “Let’s Take Care of Our Summer Air” summer ozone education and outreach program is designed to increase public understanding and awareness of the causes and solutions for ozone pollution.

Clean Air Fleets

Vehicles that run on diesel fuel are as sturdy as they come. Often though, these vehicles produce high levels of pollution that can be easily reduced by retrofitting simple exhaust system components and adding idling reduction technology. The Clean Air Fleets program is a regional public-private initiative to educate on- and off-road diesel vehicle operators on how to voluntarily reduce diesel emissions while saving money.

Every Trip Counts

Not driving your car during the summer ozone months is one of the best ways you can help reduce ozone creating pollutants.  The Every Trip Counts program provides incentives to people who choose to leave their car at home and bike, walk, or use the bus a minimum of two days per week during the summer.

Optical Gas Imaging Camera Loan Program

The Regional Air Quality Council acquired an Optical Gas Imaging Camera (OGI Camera) for the purpose of loaning it out to industry representatives and local government/health departments (Qualified Users) to identify and repair gas leaks primarily at Oil & Gas industry exploration and production facilities along the Denver Front Range and Colorado western slope, as a voluntary action, over the next two years.

Mow Down Pollution Event

Our “Mow Down Pollution” event is an annual program that offers significant incentives for citizens to trade in old gasoline-powered lawn equipment for zero-emissions battery operated lawn equipment. For the past two years, we have partnered with Neuton Mowers to offer cordless, electric mowers at savings of more than 50%, after recycling an old gas-powered mower.
